Forget ‘taking the register’ ! Get up to date…
… state of the art attendance capture improves school reputation and reduces truancy
… accurate capture of Digital Identity for speed, accuracy and attendance analysis
… let students take responsibility and let teachers focus on teaching
E-Registration brings immediate benefits to the school
Registration is quick, accurate and recorded
Students register themselves on a wall unit using card, fingerprint or facial recognition – this gets the lesson off to a quick start. This does not involve the teacher who can simply use the desktop application to check who is in class, who is late and who is absent. Once captured the attendance data feeds directly into the Management Information System (all major systems are supported) giving a permanent record of daily attendance and day-to-day day visibility of which students are in and where they are, this is very useful in emergency situations such as a fire drill.
Teaches responsibility, reduces truancy
If a student does not register, their attendance will not be recorded. This is a simple, but effective, way of taking responsibility away from the teacher and putting it into the hands of the student. Teachers feel more empowered to inform parents and work with them where there are attendance issues; truancy is significantly reduced.
Reduce administration overhead and save money
Staff can concentrate their efforts on more productive activities rather than manually taking the student register or spending time looking and sorting through inaccurate and unreliable attendance data.
Each student is given a unique ID number. This ‘Digital Identity’ can be carried on a card, associated with a fingerprint or, more recently, facial recognition can be used.
Integrating E-Registration with other systems
Every time a student registers on a wall unit the date, time and reader ID is recorded. Integrations are possible whereby the users unique ID can also grant access to, and control usage of, other systems such as the school library, cashless catering, E-Lockers and printers. Combining E-Registration with security access control is particularly useful, firstly it can ensure that only authorised card holders can access the school or designated areas within the school, they can then smoothly register their attendance using the same card or their fingerprint.
For the business, the integration of one system with another and the subsequent use of one Digital Identiy to use these systems, means that overall administration is significantly reduced; management information (eg SIMS), which contains lists of users along with their details, only needs to be imported once into the central database which can then feed out to all connected systems. This not only helps at first installation but continues to be of benefit as user information is changed or new users are added – these changes are made to the central database and then reflected in all connected systems.
What if the power fails?
We recommend a system where data is stored on the wall unit and fed back to the main server. In the case of a power failure or main server down time, battery backup will ensure data is maintained and operation can continue on the wall units. Not all systems offer this capability.
E-Registration software
Close integration with the school’s Management Information System (MIS) can determine the expected lessons and locations that students should be in and, if a student registers for a lesson they weren’t timetabled for, a ‘timetable mismatch’ report will give the expected and actual location of the student.
The system should smoothly deal with classroom changes, ideally by informing the teacher and allowing the teacher to move to a vacant classroom and activate the E-Registration unit to allow the class to self register.
